Infected UddersCows raised for milk are given steady doses of hormones that make them give much more milk than they would naturally. Their swollen udders often become infected creating a painful condition called "mastitis," which causes blood and pus to become mixed into the cow's milk. According to the industry's own figures, between 30 and 50 percent of cows raised for milk suffer from painful mastitis at any given time. |
