Cows who die before reaching the slaughterhouse are dragged off trucks with forklifts and thrown on the "dead pile." Their carcasses will be ground up and turned into dog and cat food or feed for chickens and pigs in factory farms. If these cows died from mad cow disease or other contagious illnesses, the pathogens could be passed on to cats, dogs, or farmed animals who eat them.
